Review by Cook.Snap.Eat.Love

We invited Jacob Leong, the writer of Cook Snap Eat Love to do a tasting here.

Here are some of The Tastings Room’s food reviews by Jacob:

Roasted Corn-Fed Chicken (Half Potion) Herb marinated corn-fed chicken with
Cajun spiced potato wedges and white wine mushroom sauce
$21.80 (Set dinner: comes with dessert and soup) $17.90 (Ala Carte)

This is really standard dish, and I really love a good roast. The flavour of the chicken was nicely done and the aroma was fantastic. The skin was nice and crispy too. However, I did think the meat is a little dry.

Confit of French Duck Leg
Served with Smooth Potato Mash, Grilled Pear and Tangy Orange Sauce
$22.90

Somehow, I’ve been really into Duck Confit lately, and always have this urge to order whenever I see it on the menu. Flavor-wise I thought that it was great, not too salty or gamey. The skin was crispy and the meat fell off the bone easily, but again, it felt too dry. The mash was also a little dry, but accompanied with the sauce, it was just right.

Beef Ribeye Steak
Mushroom Ragout, Gruyere Cheese, Truffle Salted House Fries, Port Wine Sauce and Mixed Mesclun
$23.90

This dish was ordered medium, but came out medium rare. Mistake or no mistake, I felt that it turned out well. The quality of the beef was good, and it didn’t deserve to be cooked medium. I was happy that my guest was able to accept the done-ness because I thought it was great at that. I only realized this now as I am writing and looking at their dish description, but my guest received regular fries instead of truffled fries, no one noticed!
